Cold sores (fever blisters) also known as herpes simplex type l, can appear on your lip, corner of your mouth, the inner part of your lip and sometimes on the roof of your mouth. The herpes simplex virus l is contagious, so it important to avoid kissing or sharing your toothbrush. Also, it is advisable to replace your toothbrush after an outbreak.
Stress is probably one of the major causes of cold sores. During the big events in you life is usually when cold sore tend to appear. It is not a coincidence, events like weddings, holidays and reunions are the ones that bring more stress and worries to your life. During these times in your life, you might want to consider trying some relaxation techniques like meditation breathing. Also you might want to consider taking up a yoga class. Yoga is known to relax you and show you how to not let stresses in life disturb your inner peace and balance and prevent cold sores.
Another cause is heat and sun exposure. If you are person that likes to use saunas or steam rooms, it is a good idea to limit your stay for ten minutes or less. If you are in the sun a lot it is very important to use a lip balm that has at least a 15 SPF. A lot of people are very good about putting sunscreen on their bodies and face but tend to miss the lips. If you get a lot of cold sores always remember to put on some sun screen on your lips, they are part of your skin.
Lastly lets consider your diet. What you eat or don’t eat can actually help prevent a cold sore from showing up on your mouth. Peanuts, almonds, and chocolate are thing you want to say away from. These all contain arginine which is an amino acid that assists in the growth and reproduction of the herpes virus. Foods that you do want to include in your diet are milk, eggs, cheese, wheat germ, fish and brewers yeast. These type of foods help in the absorption of nutrients due to the amino acid called lysine that they have and play a big role in treating cold sores.
